Importance of Nuts

Nuts, are they fruits? Are they seeds? Are they legumes? You can name it whatever you want but botanically if you think then almond is seed, peanuts are legumes and coconut is fruit, while hazelnuts is actually nut.

Nuts are compose of seeds and fruits found inside hard outer shell.

  • high in calorie
  • have healthy fats such as unsaturated and monosaturated fats
  • high in vitamins and minerals
  • high amounts of fibers
  • have good amount of antioxidants as well

Nuts are more healthy in their raw form because  roasting process may damage the healthy fats and antioxidants. Almost all nuts are high in Omega-3 fatty acid.

Nuts are common snacks and good protein source for vegetarian. Because nuts are quite dense or high in energy, is perfect during traveling.

Some nuts are substitute for dairy product such as almond milk, cashew milk and coconut milk. There are peanut butter and almond butter also available.

When it come to food, that saying “Out of sight, out of Mind”, is true when it come to food. If you want to eat healthy snacks keep them on counter in clear view might help. If you are working swept out your usual snacks like chips and crackers, keep nuts on your desk easy to reach them and enjoy them when you are hungry. Making healthy food choice is much easier if you reach them easily.

Eating nuts as part of healthy diet may good for your heart and brain. Nuts contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients. There is only drawback of nuts is they are high in calories, so it’s important to limit the  portions. But choosing nuts instead of less healthy snack may just help you to give you healthy heart.
