Breathing is one of the essence of our life. Without breathing no one can live. today i am going to talk about art of breathing. you were born with art of breathing.
Older children and adult breath average 12 to 20 times/minute. And by over the course of day, we breathe around 17000 – 30000 times/ day. These statistics are noticed during the resting period. But when you exercise or even you walk around, the number goes up.
We can breathe in 2 ways, voluntary and involuntary. Most people breath involuntary, our lungs do their job without our awareness. And without our awareness, we tend to get breath sallow. That means our lungs will not expand enough how much it should be.
We were gifted with the art of how to breathe in the right way. But as we grew up due to environmental changes( like pollution, temperature, and stress ) we get habituate to breath in a shallow manner. You can observe in newborn baby, how they breath. Their breathing practice is deep, or diaphragmatic. It means as they breathe their belly gets to expand and their chest gets a rise. As they exhale, the belly contracts. Over time our breathing patterns have changed as a reaction to environmental changes.

By shallow breathing, we give so much stress to our body and gradually it makes stress a habit of our body. Shallow breathing not only responsible for stress but it also responsible for,
- Lung infection
- Serious heart disease
- Low energy level
- Fatigue, etc..
The way humans have evolved over the millennia, we can not constantly and consciously deep breath throughout a day. So you need to make an extra effort to improve our health. Let’s say, give 10-15 minutes a day to your breathing where you just focus on your breath mindfully and consciously. You can practice this exercise in the morning or at bedtime.
How you breathe properly,
- First, sit or lie in a comfortable position
- Take slow and deep breath through your nose
- The air come through your nose should move down to your belly
- Let your abdomen expand fully
- Now breath out through your mouth and nose
- And repeat.
4-7-8 technique
- First, breath out all air
- Breath through nose for 4 seconds( count in your mind)
- Hold the breath a count of 7 seconds
- Exhale the air through mouth for 8 seconds
- And repeat…
Deep breathing has so many health benefits like,
- Relax mind and body
- Increase your energy level
- Reduces inflammation
- Detoxify your body and mind as well
- Stimulate your lymphatic system
- Improve digestion
So make life style change, breath mindfully and consciously.
Thank you,
